Wellness Programs

The Works offers a wide variety of Medical Wellness Programs.

The following Medical Wellness Programs may be covered by your health insurance company.

Works Rx

The Works Rx Program is a physician-referred program (physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant can refer) designed to address the fitness needs of the non-member.  A Medical Wellness Specialist will work with you, in conjunction with your provider’s recommendations, to ensure your success and help you achieve optimal health.  As a part of The Works Rx you will receive an Initial Consultation and exercise prescription to get you started.   You will have support and guidance throughout your 8-week program, along with full membership privileges to the club.  At the conclusion of your 8 weeks you will receive a Final Consultation to assess your progress and formulate a plan for continuation of your exercise. 

When we receive your Works Rx referral, completed and signed by your healthcare provider, our Medical Wellness Coordinator will call you to schedule your Initial Consultation.

Gentle Joints Combo (aquatic) Exercise Program

A special, supervised fitness program designed to help you manage your arthritis, reduce joint pain, and improve your quality of life.

Program includes: 

  • Qualified Instructors
  • Joint-protective exercise
  • water resistance training
  • balance and core work
  • Deep water movement

Class Schedule: MWF 8:00am - 8:45am 

Exercise Works for Cancer Recovery Program

Wentworth-Douglass Hospital's Rehabilitation Services, Seacoast Cancer Center and The Works Health & Fitness Center are pleased to offer an exercise program for cancer survivors. 

Physician referral to the Physical Therapy Department will initiate an assessment for an individualized exercise program. When medically appropriate, patients will be transitioned to a group exercise class at The Works. Patients will receive 3-months in the program free of charge at The Works to assist them in their recovery exercise program. Fitness Specialists at The Works will continue supervision of the exercise program.Program Goals

  • Prevent secondary complications
  • Increase independence
  • Decrease psychological and social stresses related to the disease process.
Maintain and increase cardiopulmonary function

Cancer Survivor Aquatics Program A specialized program designed to help cancer survivors enjoy a cardiovascular-centered workout in a fun group setting.

Program includes

  • Gentle warm-up
  • Group lap-walking/jogging
  • Heart rate monoriting
  • Strength training
  • Relaxing cool-down

Survivor Aquatics may help: 

  • Improve energy level
  • Manage lymphedema
  • Control weight, Increase flexibility
  • Create variety in training
  • Improve stamina
  • Enhance sense of well-being 

Class Schedule:  Fridays 1:15pm-1:45pm (FREE for members)

Osteoporosis Exercise Program

This program was developed with the combined efforts of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital's Rehabilitation Services and The Works Family Health & Fitness Center as a medical wellness program to help manage or prevent osteoporosis and improve quality of life for Seacoast area women.

Physician referral to the Wentworth-Douglass Physical Therapy Department will initiate an evaluation for the program. When medically appropriate, patients will be transitioned to the group exercise class at The Works. Patients will participate in the 8-week program at The Works to improve strength of muscles and bones, improve balance & posture to manage osteopenia or osteoporosis.

Class Schedule:
T/Th: 1:00pm to 2:00pm
A minimum of 5 people required to hold a class 
Independent programs available when minimums are not met.
