BodyGem at The Works

Do you know your RMR?

RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) is the unique number of calories you burn each day without exercise or activity, and accounts for up to 75% of your total calorie needs. An accurate RMR measurement provides the definitive answer when creating a personal weight loss program.

Introducing the BodyGem

The BodyGem is a simple, non-invasive device that provides an accurate RMR measurement.

The BodyGem is the same type of indirect calorimeter as the MedGem. Microlife's WatchWT MedGem device is being used to assess metabolic changes in The Biggest LoserTM contestants. "We chose to use the MedGem device based on its accuracy in comparison to other indirect calorimeters." said Dr. Robert Huizenga, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at UCLA and Medical Advisor to The Biggest LoserTM.

Ever wonder what your body is composed of? How many calories you should eat? Then sign up for an InBody Body Composition Analysis at The Works.

Your body is complex, made of many different components including water, fat and muscle. The InBody 570 is state-of-the-art technology that allows you to look beyond the scale and see what your body is made of.

The process is easy. Simply stand on the footplates, hold the hand grips and in less than a minute, the InBody 570 tells you:

  • The amount of body fat you have and where it is located
  • The amount of visceral fat (dangerous fat located around internal organs)
  • The amount of muscle you have and how it is distributed
  • An estimate of your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), the number of calories your body burns off at rest
  • Your body water distribution

A dietitian or certified personal trainer will review the results with you, identify whether your body composition falls within a healthy range and provide personalized recommendations for your lifestyle.

InBody Analysis Can Help You Monitor Your Goals

Simply tracking body weight on a traditional scale is not a true indicator of personal health or body composition change. For muscular individuals, body weight alone may not be the best indicator of health but measuring the components that make up your total body weight is a more accurate indicator of your health.

While a single InBody analysis provides information about your current body composition and metabolism, repeat analyses are valuable for assessing how lifestyle changes are affecting your health over time.

If your goal is weight loss: an InBody analysis can tell you how many calories you should eat for weight loss because it calculates your BMR. Since your BMR will change as you lose weight, repeat analyses are beneficial to determine how to adjust calorie needs and for monitoring body composition changes.

If your goal is strength or performance: the results can show progress in developing muscle mass and help to prevent muscle composition imbalances between the right and left side of the body. Muscle imbalances may reflect a dominant limb or show the impact of a prior injury.

If your goal is to prevent disease: An InBody analysis shows the quantity of visceral fat located around organs This type of fat is associated with adverse lipid levels and increased risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Whatever your goals, adding InBody to your wellness plan allows our certified personal trainers and registered dietitians to give more specific advice and more focused support.
